REMINDER: Upcoming Meeting (9/22)

One of our favorite colored pencil artists, Nancy Wood Taber, will be the visiting featured artist at our September 22nd meeting. Many of you are already familiar with Nancy's beautiful colored pencil work depicting animals & nature in rich, luminous layers of pigment. Nancy's association with Chapter 219 goes way back -- she was a member when we first started and through the years has been a participant and judge in our local shows. Upcoming Meeting (8/25)

Russ Ball is a man-for-all-seasons artist. He is perhaps best known as the brilliant illustrator for the Albuquerque Journal where we have enjoyed his colorful and whimsical illustrations since 1978. As with his other forms of art, those illustrations are multi-dimensional. They have subtle messages and meanings beyond the engaging art work. He created the 2006 balloon fiesta poster and regularly shows at Weem's Art Fest. Russ works in many mediums -- oil, watercolor, pastel, egg tempra, colored pencil, etc. -- and very often uses a mixed media approach involving a variety of interesting textures. He will share some of these techniques with us at our August meeting as well as some thoughts about how he approaches his art. You won't want to miss this one. Hello CPSA Chapter 219 members! Are you ready to another fabulous colored pencil meeting & program? Joan Catacosinos will be joining us to advise us on the technique of working with colored pencil on black. Chapter member Barbara Nahler will be assisting Joan in the presentation. Bring some of your pencils for practice and experimentation, a variety of black paper will be provided. Also, if you have some, bring WHITE WATERCOLOR or GOUACHE for another variation of the technique. Mark your calendars now and we hope to see you all there!

MEETING 9/29/09: New Season, Great Program

--Hi-- After our summer time hiatus of programmed meetings, we're ready to launch into our ELEVENTH year!! Our meeting is this SATURDAY, at Noon to 3:00 pm, room 5, BEAR CANYON SR. CNTR. (directions below). Our program is a bang-up beginning. We're fortunate to welcome Margy O'Brien, an award-winning Albuquerque artist who has a reputation in drawing, painting and tile work. She is famous for her nature/wild life journals and has published in the Albuquerque Journal and the Wildlife Magazine. She has illustrated three books. She has won top awards in MasterWorks, both in watermedia and in MINIATURES (2nd place in the International Miniature Art Show in Florida. WOW!!)
Bring a sketch book or pad and some of your pencils. Mark your calendars NOW and please come.
